Tsoukalas: 'The projections of the 2026–2029 medium-term framework amount to an admission of failure of economic policy'

" The overall mix chosen by the government is that of a budget obsessively focused on very high primary surpluses and on withdrawing resources from the market, depriving it of investment dynamism,” said main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change spokesperson Kostas Tsoukalas on SKAI Radio on Tuesday ahead of the vote on the 2026 budget. He added that " the projections of the 2026-2029 medium-term framework also amount to an admission of failure of economic policy and the squandering of a major opportunity.”

The spokesperson for PASOK-Movement for Change stated that " the projections of a growth rate of 1.2% in 2029, down from around 2.5% today, as well as the decline in the investment growth rate from 4.5% in 2026 to 0.8% in 2029, confirm the criticism we, as the main opposition, are making,” stressing that " a very significant opportunity to strengthen the structures of the economy was lost.” " The government failed to secure a better future for the economy and for the country,” he said.

He clarified that " PASOK-Movement for Change, as a matter of principle, votes in favour of defence spending.”
