Deputy Permanent Representative of Greece to the UN Ioannis Stamatekos emphasized Greece's strong support to the continued development of the UN's counter-terrorism architecture, and expressed concern regarding the persistent threat of Da'esh to international and regional peace and security, during the UN Security Council briefing on threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts on Wednesday.

Stamatakos also reiterated Greece's support for UNSC Resolutions 2254 and underscored the urgent need for a credible political roadmap to address instability and prevent Da'esh from returning to Syria. In addition, he repeated Greece's support to capacity-building initiatives that reinforce national and regional resilience, including in maritime domains.

Further, the deputy permanent representative of Greece to the UN condemned illicit trafficking of cultural heritage by Da'esh and others, as it destroys history and fuels extremism, and urged full implementation of UNSC Resolutions 2199 & 2347 and UNGA Resolution 79/133, co-sponsored by Greece.
