UN Secretary General's bilateral meetings on the Cyprus issue in Geneva concluded

The bilateral meetings of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres with the heads of the delegations discussing the Cyprus issue were concluded in Geneva on Tuesday, ahead of a five-party plenary meeting at the Palace of Nations, the headquarters of the United Nations in Geneva, scheduled to conclude at 15:00. The informal discussion will include the heads of the five delegations and four more members from each delegation.
Guterres' first meeting was with the UK Foreign Secretary for Europe, Stephen Doughty. The UN Secretary General then had a bilateral meeting with the Greek Foreign Minister, George Gerapetritis, which concluded at 10:00 (local time). This was followed by a meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar. The meetings concluded with the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and finally with the President of the Cyprus Republic Nikos Christodoulides.
As diplomatic sources pointed out, although expectations are low, it is particularly positive that there is an ongoing discussion, which is "being held on the personal initiative of the UN Secretary General."
It is clear that the two sides are starting with diametrically opposed views, but it is positive that the Turks and Turkish Cypriots sat at the negotiating table, even though they had said that they would not do so unless a framework starting from a two-state solution was accepted.
Furthermore, it is possible that the UN Secretary General will put on the table a framework for continuing the discussion process, perhaps with a new informal five-party group with an broad format.
