Toronto Economic Forum 2024: Greece's Metlen investing in five Alberta-based solar energy projects

Metlen Energy & Metals has five projects in solar energy worth 2.2 billion Canadian dollars in its investment portfolio in Alberta, Canada, Metlen Regional CEO for North America Luis Laguna said during the Toronto Economic Forum 2024 in Ontario on Thursday.
Laguna said that the five projects are expected to produce a total of 2.1 terawatts (TW) of energy annually and to supply energy to 2,000 homes, while their operation will contribute to reduced CO2 emissions in the region.
He added that at least 1,500 new job positions would open and Canada is the ideal environment for the Greek company's further development. "In reality, our trip to Canada started last year with the purchase of solar projects worth 1.4 gigawatts in Alberta, thus signaling our commitment to support local communities and industries with clean energy," he said.
Of the five projects, two are on the start line, Laguna said, also epressing the Group's interest in exploring new parnerships.
The Toronto Economic Forum is organized by the Delphi Economic Forum in partnership with The Hellenic Initiative-Canada and in association with Canada-Greece Chamber of Commerce and the Hellenic-Canadian Board of Trade. Its purpose is to promote economic relations between Greece and Canada. Participants include leaders from key sectors in Greece and Canada, and its aim is to expand collaboration in strategic sectors.
