Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis, in statements to SKAI television station on Monday, noted that "the police are not afraid of thugs, murderers, blackmailers, extortionists and adulterators. It is they who are afraid, as criminal gangs are daily being dismantled."

The minister also said that the Hellenic Police are on track to "tackle the 'fuel mafia' at its roots".

"We are cooperating with the finance ministry and the prosecutor and an in-depth search is underway to reveal the rings that smuggle fuel or deceive consumers with software".

Referring to the issue of juvenile deliquency, he underlined that 7,400 minors were arrested in the first nine months of 2023, while 10,600 minors have been arrested in the same period this year. "The worrying thing is that we have gangs that didn't exist before. It is an issue that needs to be managed first in the family, in the school, in the square, in the local community," he said.

At the same time, he pointed out that, in addition to the actions with increased police presence in places where minors gather, the five-digit telephone line 10201 is now also operating, while "in a few days we will have a new application, Safe Youth, a panic button for minors, to inform and contact the authorities of an incident, with GPS."
