Skylakakis: No need for another floating LNG unit in Pagasetic Gulf, Greece has ample supplies

A possible investment in a floating liquid natural gas (LNG) storage unit in the Pagasetic Gulf is not likely to be implemented, for lack of sustainalbe economic and political support, Environment & Energy Minister Theodoros Skylakakis said in parliament on Monday.
A New Democracy and a SYRIZA deputy had called on him to respond to a decision by the Regulatory Authority of Waste, Energy, and Waters that approved such an investment "against the views of the local community, local government, and scientific agencies."
The minister responded, "My opinion, as a related minister, is that this specific investment comes at a time when Greece has covered, has more than covered, its needs in LNG through the Revythoussa and Alexandroupolis stations. Therefore this does not relate to Greece's energy security. It may possible relate to supply interests beyond Greece. My assessment is that this investment does not have implementation prospects at economic and political sustainability level at this phase. We shall briefly wait for the environmental report. The issue has truly concerned local society recently, and I do not think it will continue to concern local society much longer."
