Six defendants released after compensating victims for break-ins, thefts in Thessaloniki

Six Greeks who were prosecuted for break-ins and thefts in the greater Thessaloniki area were released on restrictions on Monday after they provided compensation to their victims, it was announced on Monday.
The 6 individuals were charged with committing 19 crimes during the last 2 months, gaining a total of 64,000 euros in cash and valuables. The charges against them included setting up a criminal organization, grand theft, and violation of phone communications privacy (for monitoring Greek police radio frequencies).
Making use of Criminal Code regulations, the 6 defendants pleaded guilty and largely compensated their victims. The prosecutor and investigator both agreed to release them on condition that they register at a police department in their area of residence thrice a month, not leave the country, and pay a fine of 2,000 euros each.
