Ηigh-level solutions in the digital transformation of shipping

Benefit Software celebrates 32 years of continuous growth, becoming one of the world’s most important "players" in providing digital support and solutions to the shipping industry. "Staying focused on the concepts of innovation and quality, we developed an integrated ERP system that is today trusted by more than 200 shipping companies", says Thomas Zavitsanos, CEO of Benefit Software.
- What are the competitive advantages of Benefit Software that you consider to be cornerstones of your success?
If we have to single out two key elements, it is the timely recognition on our part of the importance of an organized implementation plan in each project and the integration of the acquired know-how into the solutions we implement. It has always been our strategic choice to invest in human resources and know-how, so that we can provide comprehensive consulting support and guarantee the effective co-configuration/adoption of business processes and their corresponding adaptation to our provided solutions. This can be seen in the completion of a series of complex, large-scale digital projects. In addition, our in-depth involvement with the shipping company’s culture and processes has equipped us with an invaluable wealth of knowledge about their requirements and business needs and it is this knowledge that we use every day in the design of our products and services.
- Regarding the new challenges arising on a global scale, what are the dominant trends, in your opinion, that will affect the development of digital systems in shipping?
The growing importance of environmental, social and corporate governance - ESG (especially in matters related to carbon dioxide emissions and the transition to green energy) combined with geopolitical developments, impose both the extensive use of AI technologies for the "smart” automation of operational procedures as well as the use of advanced analytics tools. At the same time, the irrefutable economies of scale that a shipping company achieves through the outsourcing of services and operations leads to the creation of systems that will not simply share data but mainly will integrate the processes of the companies and the collaborating bodies of the industry on a global level.
- How do you plan to respond to the challenges you described?
We are already in the process of developing an entirely new web-ERP system equipped with the most modern technologies and architecture that allow its operation either "on premises” or "on cloud”, fully supporting existing as well as new needs of shipping companies.
Simultaneously, we are developing a holistic digital ecosystem where the data, structured and unstructured, either for the shipping company or industry, will be processed by AI tools, transforming them into ready-made business decisions. In this direction, we have already developed an AI Prototype in which the data is entered from the ERP system, maintaining its structured coherence, with additional processing of machine learning tools in a safe working environment. In this way, users will be able to enjoy the results of a truly reliable enterprise AI tool, targeted and trained to their own needs, while safeguarding the confidentiality of interaction and information during its use.
