Man, 32, jailed on remand for stabbing of 22-year-old shop assistant

A 32-year-old man from Iran was on Tuesday remanded in custody after his testimony to an examining magistrate regarding the stabbing and serious injury of a 22-year-old passer-by on Ermou Street, as she was on her way to work. He faces charges of attempted murder and violating weapons laws.
According to the case file, the 22-year-old was stabbed twice in the back, very near the heart, causing massive bleeding.
The suspect had earlier told police that he attacked the 22-year-old victim, who worked in a shop on Ermou Street, because he thought she was an agent who was following him. It is not known whether he repeated this assertion during his testimony to the magistrate, which lasted three hours.
