Greece’s digital progress " proves that Greece can change faster than we thought” and reach " the top five of digital Europe,” emphasized National Economy and Finance Minister, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, in a post on social media on Tuesday.
As the minister noted, " yesterday, at SEPE’s Digital Economy Forum, we spoke about the country’s digital progress-an change we built together, the state and the private sector, during a period of major challenges. And one that proves that Greece can change faster than we thought.”
Pierrakakis pointed out that " in 2019 we set an ambitious goal: to move from being digital laggards to approaching the European average in digital governance. At the time, this goal seemed difficult, but with proper planning, it became achievable.”
" We had the hardware, but we lacked the software,” he noted -" that is, the right institutional and administrative architecture. Digital policy does not start with technology; it starts with governance, legislation, and the way the state operates. Today, as the projects tendered in previous years are being completed, Greece is not merely converging with the European Union average. The country has all the prerequisites to rank among the top ten, even the top five, of digital Europe. With fiscal stability, strong growth, and a rapid reduction of debt, Greece now has the foundation for the next leap-building on innovation, synergies, and the will to think on a European scale.”
