"Reliability is not a motto or an aspiration for us – it’s a commitment. Since day one, EDIT Automation has steadily invested in three pillars: expertise, operational readiness, and the integrity of our people. Our team is internationally certified and available 24/7, anywhere in the world”.
That’s how Markos Sigalas, founder and CEO of EDIT Automation, describes the company’s core culture. With more than 45 international certifications and a predictive –not reactive– approach, he emphasizes that every EDIT solution is fully tested under real-world conditions.
"We don’t improvise; we engineer with precision,” he explains, adding that for every technical issue, EDIT provides at least two options: one focused on time, and one on cost– leaving the final decision to the client.
What’s your strategy for integrating environmental regulations like EEXI and ShaPoLi?
Regulations have become a structural element of shipping operations. At EDIT Automation, we made the strategic choice back in 2016 to invest in technical specialization, continuously training our engineers with leading technology partners.
Our deep involvement with the needs of technical departments allows us to develop solutions that are both practical and innovative. A prime example is the ECO8 ShaPoLi system, developed entirely in-house at EDIT. It’s a flexible, user-friendly, fully certified tool that enables real-time shaft power measurement, data recording, and analysis – without requiring existing infrastructure changes.
Our mission is to exceed every regulatory requirement – always with simplicity, adaptability, and trustworthiness.
How do you support aging vessels in need of technological upgrades?
This is where experience and know-how really matter. With over 35 years of personal experience and a highly skilled technical team, we approach older ships with precision.
We begin with a detailed inspection to assess the true condition of each system. Then we design targeted upgrades that respect the vessel’s unique characteristics – age, build country, existing systems, and operational specifics.
Even "sister” ships often have different needs due to varied crews and operating conditions. We listen closely to each company’s and chief engineer’s technical needs.
What’s your design philosophy for new automation systems?
Our philosophy is crystal clear: safety, usability, and simplicity for the end user. We don’t just build "technology” –we create tools that become part of the crew’s daily routine.
