Costas Delaportas, CEO of DryDel Shipping: "It’s high time for dry bulk fleet renewal"

DryDel Shipping ‘s President & CEO, Mr. Costas Delaportas, took the stage at Geneva Dry 2025 Conference - one of the premier global dry bulk forums- to address agri-cultural commodities trends & challenges.

Held at the historic Hotel President Wilson and expertly organized, the event brought together top voices and key decision-makers from across the dry bulk sector.

Mr. Delaportas shared insights on the current market landscape and future outlook, including:

- ”In shipping, competition is in our DNA. We navigate it daily—fluctuating freight rates, regulations, or the race for quality assets & cargoes. Shipping is dynamic & that’s what drives us."

- "It’s high time for dry bulk fleet renewal — highly beneficial for the market & the environment. With the new tonnage, we benefit from a 25% increase in hire due to its lower fuel consumption compared to the older vessels."

- "We manage volatility through diversification, flexibility and modern fleet:  diversified as shipowners & operators -fixing more than 5 million Mtonnes cargoes annually-, providing high flexibility to Charterers, and modern fleet for efficiency & competitiveness.”

- ”Congestion is building up in South America — supportive for the market."

- ”Now may be the time to seize opportunities in the softening second-hand market.”

DryDel currently owns 12 Japanese-built dry bulk vessels, operates an additional 30, and expects delivery of 11 newbuildings—including 2 Capesizes—from top-tier Japanese yards over the next three years.
