The rumours flying around since Wednesday regarding the upcoming extraordinary Congress of main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance "have nothing to do with reality," party sources underlined on Thursday. "The efforts to discredit the Congress will be in vain," the same sources added.

""Those who predict or, worse still, look forward to a 'travesty of a Congress with heightened tension' will not achieve their goal," the SYRIZA sources noted, adding that "in our collective effort, all members, officials and deputies of the party must rally and not make provocative statements that add fuel to the fire and discredit the Congress".
Regarding the hybrid in person-online character of the Congress, they pointed out that "democracy, respect for the members' voices, as well as the difficult economic conjucture, impose the specific framework in order for all the elected delegates to be able to actively participate and to co-decide on everything, independent of their place of residence and their financial capabilities".

The same sources pointed out that the previous regular Congress, which had approved the candidacies for the leadership - among them that of Stefanos Kasselakis - was also hybrid.
