A vessel carrying 52 undocumented migrants was located off the coast of the island of Gavdos at 05:30 on Friday. A Panama-flagged freighter near that location and specifically 63 nautical miles south of Gavdos approached the migrant boat and rescued the migrants, among them children, transferring them to the freighter.

The freighter is bound for the port of Paleohora, west of Chania where the migrants will be temporarily hosted until they are transferred to Athens.
