Two firefighters injured in Sofiko wildfire

Two firefighthers were injured while battling the blaze in Sofiko, Corinth, the Fire Brigade said on Wednesday. The two firefighters, according to Fire Brigade sources, are suffering from light burns and have been sent to Corinth hospital.

The wildfire in Sofiko is in progress. The fire brigade said that it is burning farm land and forest and does not threaten residential areas.

The firefighting forces battling the blaze were reiforced, increasing them to 120 firefighters with 32 fire engines and five teams of firefigthers on foot (including 10 firefighters from Moldova in the context of the European Civil Protection Mechanism), assisted by 13 firefighting aircraft and six helicopters, two of them for coordination reasons.

A message has been sent by the emergency number 112 to the residents of Sofiko urging them to be on alert and follow the authorities instructions.
