DEF IX - MIT's Daskalakis, Microsoft's Cook discuss harnessing AI for citizen benefit

At the 9th Delphi Economic Forum, experts delved into the effective use of artificial intelligence for the welfare of citizens. Notable speakers included MIT professor and head of Greece’s High-Level Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence Constantinos Daskalakis and Corporate Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Microsoft Antony Cook. 

Both speakers underscored the necessity for legislative measures to regulate AI. Daskalakis outlined ongoing efforts by the Committee to devise a strategic framework tailored to Greece's needs. He emphasized the exploration of AI applications for public services, human capital development, and the establishment of ethical guidelines for AI advancement.

In addressing global electoral processes, Daskalakis stressed the potential of AI in fostering inclusive governance while also highlighting the imperative to tackle issues like deepfakes.

Antony Cook highlighted Microsoft's initiatives including AI applications in Greece aimed at preserving cultural heritage and managing natural disasters. He also said it is an exciting time to see how technology applications can be applied to different fields for human and business interests. In terms of regulation, Cook underlined the need for a balance between innovation and legislation.
