Supermarket discounts offered on products which have been priced anew right before the discount will not be allowed as of the new year, according to a legislation currently being drafted by the Ministry of Development, noted Minister Kostas Skrekas in an interview to news portal Libre on Saturday.

These "problematic and largely misleading promotion offers is a perennial problem which the government is determined to deal with", added the minister, "as these discounts are not real discounts.

Furthermore, government controls for the suppression of profiteering are intensive and will continue as long as the inflationary crisis lasts, stressed Skrekas.
